Just having a mobile website for your restaurant as part of your mobile marketing strategy isn’t enough. Have you Googled your restaurant from your mobile phone to see how quickly you are found? Just because you are found from a desktop search doesn’t mean you will also be found from a mobile search. Google classifies these searches differently, so you should definitely keep that in mind when establishing a mobile website for your restaurant. Local searches done with smartphones are important also, because many consumers are staying closer to home. If your restaurant shows up on local search, you can be sure that customers who are searching locally will find you.

Another important consideration for a restaurant mobile marketing strategy is to remember that mobile doesn’t just mean smartphones. There are other mobile devices being used by diners, including tablets. This is important because different devices use different platforms, and counting out iPads and other mobile devices means that they will not be able to adequately view your mobile website.

Now more than ever before, consumers are interested in saving money. Diners are not dining out as often, and they want to feel like they receive value for their dollar when they do. This is where mobile coupons come in. With the help of a QR code and/or SMS messaging, you can put your best deals right into the hands of mobile consumers who would jump at the chance to enjoy a meal out if they had a deal they thought they couldn’t pass up.

Restaurant SMS messaging is also a great way to increase short-term traffic at your restaurant. For your slower dining days, plan to send out text messages with deals for that day, such as two-for-one specials on certain entrees, discounts on drinks, or a free appetizer with entrée purchase. This increases your traffic for the day and attracts those diners who would come in if they had a discount.

With a database of customer cell numbers, you can target specific customers and bring them in for special deals. For example, send out birthday greetings to your customers with an offer for free dessert or a lunch special. You can also send out special deals for seniors, or have “Kids Eat Free” days for families.

Mobile marketing for restaurants is a great way to fill your tables and engage with your diners like never before. Don’t be the last restaurant on the block to take advantage of mobile.
